Message something metallic to scrape the connectors clean, of course being careful not to damage them.

I have in the past sprayed such a connector with electric contact cleaner, then run over it good with a toothbrush. This usually helps a bit, but doesn't get off the real crusty green stuff.

I have had good luck cleaning the male side using the side of a small flathead screw driver blade (the blade has ridges on it that kind of act like a scraper). On the female side I have used even smaller flatheads and picks to sort of scrape around in there, again, being careful not to force or bend the somewhat delicate connectors.

I have also tried small pieces of fine synthetic steel wool, just because I had it, but it's not so easy to get it down to the connectors in a way that you can get a good scrape on them.

I think for the most part it's about using electrical contact cleaner and being careful with the most suitable metal tool you can sort out to do some light scraping on the connectors. The angles are all kind of weird, especially when avoiding damage to the plastic parts of the connector.

Andy
